Facial Massage in Lisbon: What Happens in a Facial Lifting Massage
A facial massage sounds simple until you try to picture it. Is it a beauty treatment? A relaxation session that happens to focus on the face? Will your skin be left shiny with oil? Those are fair questions, and the answers are easier to give once you know what a Facial Lifting Massage at The Healing Space actually involves. This guide walks through the session at our small studio on R. Pedro Ivo in Roma-Lisboa, explains how it feels compared with a body massage, and covers what to tell us about your skin before you book. It is a calm, hands-on wellness session. It does not promise cosmetic results, and it is not a medical or dermatological treatment.
What a Facial Lifting Massage is, and what it is not
Facial Lifting Massage is a treatment on our menu, and it is a massage of the face, usually with the neck included. The word 'lifting' describes the upward direction of many of the strokes, not a result we can guarantee. A massage session cannot change the structure of your face, and we would not tell you that it will.
What it can reasonably offer is quiet, attentive time focused on areas such as the jaw, temples, forehead and around the eyes.
It is also not a salon facial in the usual sense. There is no extraction, no peeling and no machine. It is touch, pace and attention.
What actually happens during the session
You arrive, settle in and have a short conversation with Maya, the massage therapist, about how you are feeling, what your skin is like and anything you would like her to avoid. You then lie on the massage table, face up, with your hair kept back from the face. If you are unsure what to wear, ask when you book.
The session is unhurried. Expect slow, flowing strokes across the forehead, cheeks, jaw and around the eyes. The session may also include time on the neck and the top of the shoulders. A suitable oil or cream may be used on the skin, and this is exactly why the skin conversation at the start matters.
You are welcome to lie still and let your attention drift, and it is fine if you doze off.
How it feels compared with a body massage
A body massage is often about pressure: broad strokes, sustained contact, sometimes a firm press into a tight muscle. Facial massage is a different register. The touch is lighter, the areas are smaller and the movements are more detailed. There is much less of the 'working into a knot' feeling and much more of a gentle, rhythmic, almost fine-grained attention.
It can also feel more intimate because the focus is the face. If that sounds a little exposed, say so. Saying 'lighter, please' or 'could we slow down around the eyes' is welcome at any point.
If what you really want is to release tight shoulders after a week at a laptop, a facial session alone may not be the right fit. In that case our guide to [neck, back and shoulder massage](/blog/neck-back-shoulder-massage-lisbon/) will help you choose. If you simply want to switch off, [relaxation massage](/blog/relaxation-massage-lisbon/) is the broader option.
What to mention about skin sensitivity before booking
This is the part worth taking seriously. Skin on the face can respond differently to products than skin elsewhere, so it is worth mentioning anything relevant. Before the session, tell us if any of the following apply:
- Sensitive, reactive or easily flushed skin
- Known allergies to oils, creams, fragrances or nuts
- Active skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, dermatitis or acne flare-ups
- Recent cosmetic procedures, peels, injectables or laser treatment
- Cuts, sunburn, cold sores or broken skin on the face or neck
- Anything a doctor or dermatologist has told you to avoid
Skin, health and when to check first
Mentioning these things does not mean you will be turned away. It means the session can be discussed and adapted where appropriate, for example by choosing a different product, reducing pressure or leaving an area alone. In some situations, particularly a recent procedure or an active skin condition, it may be sensible to check with your doctor or dermatologist first.
The same goes for general health. If you have an injury, a neck problem, are pregnant or have other health concerns, tell us when you book rather than on the day. We are a massage studio, not a clinic, so we can adapt a wellness session but we cannot diagnose or treat a skin condition.
Choosing your length and how to combine it
Facial Lifting Massage follows our standard price list: 30 minutes is €30, 60 minutes is €50, 90 minutes is €70 and 110 minutes is €90. Thirty minutes is enough for a short, focused visit, though it can feel brisk once the first few minutes of settling are gone. Sixty minutes is the comfortable default and the length that also works with our prepaid massage packages.
Longer sessions can make sense if you want the face and neck to be one part of a wider visit. If you are curious about blending areas, the principles in our [combination massage guide](/blog/combination-massage-lisbon/) apply: describe what you want, and the time is shaped around it.
If your interest is a very gentle, slow touch rather than a facial focus, you might also read about [lymphatic drainage massage](/blog/lymphatic-drainage-massage-lisbon/), which uses a similarly light technique. It is a different treatment, so ask us if you are not sure which fits.
