Four Hands Massage in Lisbon: What It Feels Like and How to Choose Your Length

A four hands massage sounds like a spa extravagance, and in one sense it is. It is also one of the simplest treatments to describe: two therapists work on one person at the same time. What is harder to explain is how that feels, and whether it suits you better than a standard session or a Duo Massage for two. This guide covers what to expect at The Healing Space, a small studio at R. Pedro Ivo 13B in Roma-Lisboa, near Alvalade and Areeiro. It also covers how the 30, 60, 90 and 110 minute options differ, and what each costs. It is wellness content, not medical advice.

What a four hands massage actually is

In a four hands massage, two therapists work on you together, so there are four hands on your body instead of two. You are the only guest in the room. It is also called a synchronised massage, because the aim is a flowing, coordinated treatment rather than two separate massages happening side by side.

The practical difference from a standard session is how much of you is being cared for at once. One therapist might work on your back while the other works on a leg, or both might work along the same long lines of the body. With two pairs of hands, it can be hard to predict where the next stroke will land, and you may find it easier to stop following and simply let go.

If you like a quiet, predictable rhythm and want to keep track of what is happening, a single therapist may suit you better. Neither is better in itself. It depends on whether you want to be immersed or to stay oriented.

What it can feel like in a small Roma-Lisboa studio

The Healing Space is a small, personal studio, and that shapes the experience. There is no corridor of treatment rooms or hotel-style hush to cross. You arrive on R. Pedro Ivo, settle in and are looked after in a calm, unhurried way.

During the session you lie on the table as you would for any massage, covered and draped appropriately. The pressure is something you can discuss beforehand and adjust as you go. With two people working, it helps to say clearly at the start whether you want gentle, medium or firmer pressure, and whether any area should be avoided or given more time.

Do not be shy about speaking up mid-session. If one side feels firmer than the other, or you would like a slower pace, say so. Both therapists can adjust as you go.

How it differs from a Duo Massage for two

A 4 Hands Massage is for one guest, with two therapists working at the same time. A Duo Massage is for two guests who receive their treatments together in the same room; our guide to couples massage in Lisbon explains the shared format.

A Duo costs €100 for two at 60 minutes or €140 for two at 90 minutes. A 4 Hands Massage is priced separately because two therapists work with one guest for the whole session.

Choosing between 30, 60, 90 and 110 minutes

The current menu prices for 4 Hands are €50 for 30 minutes, €90 for 60 minutes, €135 for 90 minutes and €155 for 110 minutes. Here is a practical way to think about each one.

Length matters more than it first appears, because two therapists cover ground faster than one. The same minutes can include more of the body, or the same areas treated with more attention.

  • 30 minutes (€50): a brief, focused introduction. It suits a single area such as back, neck and shoulders, or someone curious about the format who does not want to commit to a long session.
  • 60 minutes (€90): the most balanced choice for a first time. It is long enough to feel the coordinated rhythm across the whole body without it being a half-day event.
  • 90 minutes (€135): if you usually need a while to settle, this length leaves unhurried time once you have.
  • 110 minutes (€155): the full, unhurried version. It suits a special occasion, a birthday treat or a day when you have nothing to rush back to.

Is it the right choice for you?

If you have never had a massage, it may be wiser to begin with a single therapist so you can learn what pressure and pace you like. Our guide to relaxation massage and session length is a good place to start, and our guide to choosing the right massage in Lisbon compares the other styles.

If you want to blend techniques, such as some relaxing flow with firmer work on the shoulders, a 4 Hands session can be discussed in the same way. Our piece on combination massage explains how to describe pressure and areas, and the same language works here.

Before you book, mention pregnancy, injuries, health concerns, skin sensitivity or anything else that might affect comfort. The session can then be discussed and adapted where appropriate. If you are unsure whether a treatment suits you, ask first rather than guessing.

Prices, offers and what does not apply

Some offers do not work with every treatment, so it is worth checking before you plan around a discount. The prepaid massage packages cover eleven 60-minute services, but they exclude 4 Hands Massage. Calm Hours discounts, 20% off Monday to Thursday and 15% off Friday to Sunday from 11:00 to 15:00, apply to selected services, and Fresha confirms eligibility and final price at checkout.

If you use The Healing Space Rewards, 4 Hands requires double points: 360, 600, 840 or 1,080 points for 30, 60, 90 or 110 minutes. Points are earned at 1 per €1 paid on individual treatments, so it is a long-term perk rather than a quick saving.
